The SAP FICO Analyst (London) is required support the London SAP Finance and Controlling team and to work with the local Finance & Treasury, Tax, and Global Trading Operations teams to elicit business requirements (functional, technical and non-functional).

Role objectives

The SAP FICO Analyst (London) is required support the London SAP Finance and Controlling team and to work with the local Finance & Treasury, Tax, and Global Trading Operations teams to elicit business requirements (functional, technical and non-functional).

The SAP FICO Analyst will advise the business how, within the context of business processes, requirements can best be met within the SAP environment. Following the definition of business requirements and identification of a functional solution, the SAP FICO Analyst will work with the St Petersburg Capability Manager for Finance and Controlling to ensure new solutions function within the Global SAP model.

The focus of this role is work on small change and project initiatives to support the annual backlog for Finance. The SAP FICO Analyst will be expected to work on projects and contribute to the SAP Finance roadmap.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously and within a team to deliver technology enabled business change
  • Work closely with the St Petersburg SAP Capability team
  • Work with Finance & Treasury, Retail Finance, Tax, Global Trading Operations and other business stakeholders, architecture, development teams and BA colleagues to assess, shape and deliver;
    • tactical and/or strategic developments and business change
  • Consult with key business stakeholders to understand processes, develop the business case, document requirements, develop specifications and acceptance criteria
  • Ensure all business change is adequately planned and prioritised. With this plan supported by high level and detailed requirements (stories) and agreed acceptance criteria
  • Work closely with testing resources (unit and QA testing) and the business (UAT) to ensure solutions meet expectations and have only a positive impact at implementation
  • QA and sign off on change in the development landscape
  • Jointly develop business readiness plans prior to implementation
  • Provide user training and ensure user guides are written and updated
  • Initiate post-implementation reviews to monitor product effectiveness and performance

Skills & Competencies

  • Solid functional knowledge of the following SAP ECC modules:
    • FI (GL, AR, AP, AA)
    • CO (CCA, Assessments)
    • FSCM (Cash management (CM) fundamentals)
    • SAP Banking (e-banking)
    • SAP Bank Communication Manager (BCM)
    • Travel Management
  • Strong business process knowledge of the following processes, preferably in a commodity trading or financial services environment:
    • P2P
    • FI Invoicing to Cash
    • Record to report
    • Trade settlements
    • IFRS 9 – Accounting for Financial Instruments
  • Good knowledge of Statutory, Management and Group reporting
  • SAP Functional solution design experience
  • Good understanding of BW and BW/ECC integration
  • Excellent Stakeholder management skills
  • SAP change management knowledge / understanding
  • Strong knowledge of period end closing processes
  • Nice to have – exposure to SRM or FSCM Collections Management
  • Nice to have – exposure to Projects Systems
  • Self-starter/able to work with limited guidance
  • Able to understand business issues and specify IT solutions
  • Team-player with ability to achieve results through shared initiatives
  • Demonstrable experience of coordinating complex projects/initiatives
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and negotiate in a pressurised environment
  • Strong facilitation and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication skills e.g. written, verbal and presentation

  • Qualified Accountant or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience as an SAP functional consultant in required modules
  • Preferably from a Big 4 / Tier 1 consulting background
  • Minimum of 3 full life cycle implementations as analyst functional consultant
  • Experience of documenting as-is and to-be business processes
  • Demonstrate credibility with working with business colleagues including the ability to provide appropriate challenge and review to requirements
  • Functional Specification and configuration of SAP modules as well as functional specification of custom development
  • Must have oil and gas / energy experience
  • Experience in trading / integrated supply and trading would be an advantage
  • Experience working with offshore teams
  • Experience with implementing global processes and solutions a plus
  • Experienced with waterfall and Agile delivery methodology


  • Degree (or equivalent ideally in an accounting or financial management related subject)
  • Professional certifications in desired skill areas an advantage (e.g. SAP certifications)
