Catering to specific learning and career paths, the GM&T graduate scheme includes a variety of programmes offering insight and first-hand experience into how our different departments work. Opportunities are available in the following areas, across sites in London and Manchester:

Rotate through the three key analytical areas of the F&A team, giving you the chance to better understand the Gas, Power and Liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets. Your focus will be to provide timely and accurate views/forecasts of the markets that we operate to generate sound and profitable trading decisions. In this role, you will be exposed to all parts of this process, getting a solid background in fundamental analytics, industry knowledge and commercial exposure.

This role gives you the opportunity to work within an exciting and respected IT delivery team developing business critical applications for the trading desks. Our traders rely on this software to provide them with essential analytics, to ensure that they have the latest information to make informed trading decisions. The team is also responsible for researching, improving, implementing and maintaining systematic trading software, to ensure that our tools and processes evolve along with the business.

This rotational programme offers you the opportunity to embed yourself within a large corporate department, assisting and supporting the Finance Leadership Team in realising the Group Finance vision.  You will sit within the busy Finance & Treasury department, gaining experience and exposure across various functions; Treasury Operations, Liquidity Management, Accounting & Control, Financial Planning & Analysis and Group Reporting. You will need a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and thrive in a high-pressure environment with challenging deadlines.

A rotational programme covering commercial and operational activities across multiple commodity products that are traded globally. You will sit within the Risk department, gaining experience and exposure of middle office functions; Trading Operations, Product Control and the various Risk teams. You will assist with negotiating trading documentation, developing collaborative relationships with Front Office and the Support Functions. That means you will need to combine your analytical skills with a positive can-do attitude, and strong communication and influencing skills.

Embedding yourself into one of our key commercial teams, Digital Trading, you will work closely with traders, developers and analysts to help develop, implement and maintain systematic trading strategies. To succeed in this role you will need a keen interest in coding and data as you will work on various tools that the trading team use.

The sales programme offers an in-depth insight into all aspects of the sales team. You will spend time within four keys aspects of the Sales Department; Marketing, Mid-sales, Corporate accounts and Small Medium Enterprises (SME). You will learn various skills throughout the two-year scheme, from the Marketing side of sales, looking at generating leads, the customer journey right through to working in Corporate Accounts. You will support our drive for continuous improvement, and to provide innovative ways of working to ensure that we deliver a consistently customer-centric, cost-effective service to our customers and brokers.

A rotational programme developed to give you a well-rounded and in-depth view of the IT department, and how every aspect of each role within the department impacts the wider operation. You will be involved in business analysis, project management, development, testing and DBA/Application support – all rotational placements ensure that you receive a well-rounded experience and increase your chances of becoming an innovative, forward thinking IT professional.

A hugely rewarding programme offering insight into the world of analytics and data science. You will spend two years working on live projects, alongside highly reputable data scientists and data engineers gaining knowledge and understanding to help you build a solid foundation for a career in data.  You will work closely with other teams within the business, enabling you to engage with different teams and be exposed to a broad spectrum of skills along the way.

A fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to challenge themselves! This function creates best in class customer experience leveraging data, insight, research and technology to drive continuous improvement and innovation in the energy space. You will acquire extensive SQL coding skills in a business environment, discover how to tell stories through data and insight, gather the necessary skills to create and measure the performance of sophisticated CRM campaigns plus learn data science skills using Python & “R” to create customer segmentations, profiles and predictive models – all centred around customer data.

A rotational programme that gives you the opportunity to see all sides of the function. You will sit within the busy finance department of our retail function in Manchester and complete six months within; Credit Control, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Planning/analysis.

Learning & development

All our graduates will join the GM&T Group on an initial two-year learning programme, where you will develop your market, sector and personal skills through our learning and development offering. We operate a 70:20:10 model whereby individuals gain knowledge, learn and develop by breaking things down in the following way:

  • GM&T’s learning and development solutions are tailored to ensure high-impact, high-quality progression through various opportunities, including classroom courses, e-learning, external and technical training, and more.
  • When joining a trading business, it is important for you to understand the trade lifecycle, from execution to payment. You will participate in workshops that demonstrate the process, helping you understand how it works and where you and your team fit into the process.
  • We will help you develop your understanding of the energy sector by providing access to our online resources, including ‘Introduction to the Gas & Power markets’, ‘Introduction to the Energy Industry Landscape’ and an ‘Introduction to Derivatives and Spreads’. All graduates have the opportunity to take part in a trading simulation to apply their learning.
  • Developing your soft skills is also important, so we encourage you to take advantage of GM&T Academy. This is a collection of 50 instructor-led workshops delivered across the globe, including industry awareness for new starters, professional skill development, and management & leadership training.
